Group Membership Information

Membership Services offered to Groups

BLYM offers group affiliation to Schools, Universities, Youth Groups, Scouts, Guides and other similar organisations who could benefit from the facilities and wish to further the objects of the organisation.

Groups with RYA Instructors can have access to BLYM and our fleet of dinghies and rescue boats at any time subject to availability and conditions. This gives the opportunity for organised group sailing sessions where the group is fully self-sufficient.

Groups who do not have qualified instructors, but have leaders with good personal sailing proficiency may, by arrangement, run sessions supervised by qualified BLYM volunteers during general sailing times. General sailing sessions run seasonally on late afternoon / evening on Wednesdays, Saturdays mornings / afternoons, school holiday times morning / afternoons. Additionally, BLYM can provide help with instructors at other times by special arrangement for groups that do not have sufficient qualified instructors.

BLYM Youth Committee Trip

Fees for use of the facilities are invoiced to the group at the end of each season. BLYM's facilities can be made available for non-sailing activities on application to the Management Committee.

Group instructors and youth members of the affiliated group may also attend BLYM general sailing sessions to independantly improve their sailing. A fee is charged on arrival for general sailing sessions.

From time to time BLYM organises special events, expeditions, racing and miscellaneous activities to which group members are invited. These are advertised in our 'Jibsheet' newsletter, a copy of which is sent to the main contact person (group leader).

Groups with their own boats may berth and sail them at BLYM on payment of an annual berthing fee. Should a group member wish to berth and sail their own boat at BLYM they are required to become a personal / family member.

Group Instructors and their young people (members) may make use of the BLYM chandlery for the purchase of discounted clothing and personal equipment.

Bury Lake Young Mariners exists to further sailing and sailing skills and as such actively encourages group instructors who are not qualified to obtain RYA qualifications. Courses are delivered by BLYMs qualified and highly experienced volunteers to national standards. For more information, please see the courses section of this site.

We hope you will decide to join, and we look forward to sailing with you.
