BLYM welcomes regular sailors as members, particuarly young people, families and adults who may wish to sail themselves and also support the club's youth activities. Some more information about what BLYM can provide for members is given below:
Principal Aim of BLYM
To promote the development of young people through the medium of sailing and related activities.
Goals
- To provide a safe, well managed environment for the pursuit of our activities.
- To be widely recognised as a good model for the successful operation of a voluntary organisation.
- To provide high quality equipment and stimulating activities.
- To meet or exceed the requirements of relevant governing bodies, notably the Royal Yachting Association and the Adventurous Activity Licensing Authority.
- To make sailing readily accessible to young people, and encourage its pursuit for the development of "life skills".
- To be operationally and financially independent.
Values
We wish to:
- Be an open, friendly club that welcomes all young people, including those from a disadvantaged background.
- Achieve a high standard of safety, seamanship and conduct.
- Encourage a caring and supportive attitude towards each other, respecting the facilities, equipment and environment.
Target 'Market'
We wish to attract:
- Individual young people, aged up to 24.
- Schools and youth organisations of all types.
- Families.
- Adults wishing to help us further our endeavours.
Activities and Operating Times
A programme is published annually to provide appeal to members of all ages, ability levels and interests. General sailing for individuals is available at the following times:
- Saturdays, morning and afternoon sessions, March-November
- Wednesday afternoons, from 4.30 pm, April-October
- Monday-Friday during school holidays, 9.30 - 3.30 each day
- Sunday mornings for racing, from October to March.
The base is available to organised groups at other times where the group can provide appropriately qualified leaders.
